You Need
Life skills software to support young people (aged 14+) and adults with learning difficulties
The award winning Out & About series has recently been updated and extended. This course is designed to give an overview of how this and other software can support older learners.
The day is run by publisher Laura Cryer who published the latest Out & About titles with Home Farm Trust, Semerc and the TATE project. Laura has now joined the Inclusive Technology team.
Programme
Colleagues attending this course will:
- Explore a range of software and resources offering practical life skills support through the medium of ICT.
- Understand how to personalise software for individual need.
- Look at ways to use the resources to create personalised learning programs and use records for further learning.
This course is ideal for SENCOs, teachers and support workers who are involved in devising learning programmes and supporting older pupils and clients with learning difficulties in mainstream and other settings.
Each delegate will have the option to pay an additional £50 plus VAT and receive a single-user copy of an appropriate software title.
10:00 Welcome and Introductions
10:10 Session 1
- Overview of the Out & About series, Colorcards Interactive, ReadIt! The Creature, Coping with Chaos, Idiom Track and others.
- Looking at appropriate differentiation, recording, record keeping and printable resources.
11:15 Session 2
- Out & About 3 – Gadgets at Home - Explore and play in depth.
12:30 Lunch
A buffet lunch is provided.
Delegates will also have the opportunity to look at other hardware and Inclusive Technology software.
13:30 Session 3
- Out & About 4 – Money and Finances - Explore and play in depth.
- Introduction to Out & About Assistive Technology – Assessing Needs.

- Out & About quiz – adapting resources from the software for activities away from the computer.
