Using ICT to Support Students with Specific Learning Difficulties/Dyslexia

Students with Specific Learning Difficulties/Dyslexia typically struggle with reading, writing and spelling but can also have associated problems such as poor organizational skills or short-term memory issues.

This course will take a practical look at how technology can help Specific Learning Difficulties/Dyslexia, and other students struggling with reading and writing, to access written material and complete writing tasks by providing a multi-sensory approach to learning and recording.

Colleagues attending this course will:

  • Understand simple changes that can be made to existing ICT provision to improve support for students with SpLD/Dyslexia.
  • Have a working knowledge of simple portable technology, like hand held spellcheckers, digital note takers and digital voice recorders can help with writing and recording.
  • Explore how specialist ICT provision such as text to speech, onscreen word banks, word prediction, mind mapping and voice recognition can provide support across the curriculum.

This course will appeal to teachers, support staff and anyone helping students with Specific Learning Difficulties/Dyslexia in an educational environment.

Each delegate will receive a 1Gb memory stick preloaded with extra material relevant to the course. It can also be used throughout the day to save their practical work.
