Basic Skills Agency
"We are the national development agency for basic skills. The Agency wants to improve basic skills and has a number of activities aimed at doing this. We fund innovatory demonstration projects. We publish resources for teachers and students. We fund research into the levels of basic skills need and effective approaches for tackling this. We are working with primary schools, secondary schools, FE & adult organisations to improve basic skills for all ages. We run a free National Telephone Referral Service to help adults join basic skills classes."
A national agency for literacy, numeracy and related basic skills for England and Wales, funded by the DfEE and the Welsh Office, they produce and publish learning material to help children, young people and adults to improve basic skills. They also publish a free Basic Skills magazine four times a year.
