Celebrating our tenth birthday at the Special Needs Fringe

Susie Miles of EENET with Trish Hornsey, Roger Bates and Martin Littler of Inclusive Technology, celebrating our tenth birthday with Bob the Builder.

To mark our tenth birthday we have launched SwitchIt! Bob the Builder, new software that has brought Bob the Builder within reach of disabled youngsters.

We have developed the software free of charge so that all proceeds can go towards the Manchester's New Children’s Hospital Appeal. SwitchIt! Bob the Builder has been produced with the kind permission of the BBC and leading pre-school children’s entertainment producers and rights owners HIT Entertainment.

Bob himself made a special guest appearance at the Special Needs Fringe exhibition, which took place at the Olympia Hilton, London, from 10 – 12 January. He helped us celebrate and even cut the birthday cake with his builder's trowel!

We also celebrated the tenth birthday of EENET, a charity promoting the idea of inclusive education to the developing world. We have worked with them from the outset providing their website and publishing/mailing thousands of CDs all over the world.

The Special Needs Fringe focuses on computers and special needs, a field increasingly called "Assistive Technology". Running next door to the gigantic BETT show, it offers a more intimate and specialist atmosphere and (particularly important) free refreshments and somewhere to sit and chat with colleagues.

Thanks to everyone who entered our tenth birthday celebration prize draw. Congratulations go to Dave Part, Special Needs Resource Centre; John Green, Ashfield School; Jo Simpson, Langenhoe School; Hilary Freeborough, Fordwater Special School; Chris Eaton, Special Needs Support Service; Barbara Harker, Fitzwaryn Special School; Alison Peck, St. Christopher's School; Ted Gallagher, Limington House School; Joanne Robertson, New Fosseway Special School; and Liz Shinn, Ivy House School. They each won ten popular software titles from Inclusive Technology.

The New Children's Hospital Appeal is raising funds for a new, state-of-the-art children's hospital in central Manchester. Spearheaded by Bob the Builder, the Appeal will help to provide the latest equipment for treatment and diagnosis and accommodation for families caring for a child in hospital.
