The Inclusive Views initiative aims to advance and support new and innovative products for learners of all ages. It is an exciting opportunity delivered by NESTA in partnership with Inclusive Technology.
This opportunity is open to anyone who would benefit from one to two years of targeted support for a new learning tool or technology that demonstrates the innovative use of inclusive design.
We welcome applications from teachers, designers, parents, students and others who have a commitment to using design as a way to equalise and enhance the learning landscape.
What is inclusive design?
Inclusive design seeks to ensure that mainstream products, services and environments are accessible to the largest number of people, regardless of age or ability. It represents a relatively recent, but growing shift in attitude away from treating people with physical or other impairments as special cases and tries to integrate more inclusive designs into everyday life.
Support Available
In October 2005 Inclusive Views will select four product ideas for up to £22,000 of financial assistance each as well as one year of professional support and development. This year-long effort is designed to help turn these ideas into prototypes that can be taken to market.
Inclusive Technology will then guide at least two of the projects through a second year of support, which will include access to graphic designers, programmers, project managers, networks of teachers and therapists, and extensive commercial networks.
Please note: NESTA will take a small royalty stake in all projects that do go successfully to market. The successful ideas will also be given a small royalty based on eventual sales, beyond the life of the award.
