Simon Wright and support his bid to reach the Paralympics.
After being diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy in 1988 Simon began looking for a sport he could enjoy and began sailing in 1995. He went on to put together the Hull Disabled Challenger Sailing Group with a fleet of boats that enable disabled people to sail. The group had access to seven boats, a hoist and a fully accessible clubhouse.
In his first full year of sailing for himself, Simon became the top averaging sailor at club level and was placed in the top three in all four series in 2003.
Simon has now changed his class of boat from a Challenger to a 2.4m in a bid to reach the Paralympics. From the summer of 2003 he gained a coach, became part of the Elite English Squad and underwent training with the full GBR Olympic Squad in Palma.
Now, he is headed for the Olympic trials. Good luck Simon!
