Transform 2004 is a new world Conference that will explore and celebrate the latest developments and most successful outcomes in assistive technology - the hardware and software that helps those with special needs to live and learn.
Christopher Reeve, actor, director, spokesperson for people with disabilities and campaigner for medical research, will give the first keynote speech of the Conference.
Transform will take place at the internationally renowned University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), from Wednesday 7th to Saturday 10th July 2004.

"This is a celebration of all that technology can achieve for those with special needs or disabilities," said Martin Littler of the Transform 2004 Planning Group and CEO of the Inclusive Group of Companies. "It is a chance for everyone involved in assistive technology to share experiences and ideas across international borders and for the latest research to really make its mark on current practice."
Delegates will share expertise and ideas; consolidate good practice; find new ways that software and technology can help people with special needs; and discover new technology and applications. They will gain a better understanding of how the lives of those with special needs can be transformed by the latest technologies.
Transform 2004 gives all involved in the field of assistive technology the opportunity to network and to learn from each other by submitting proposals for sessions at the Conference: practitioners, researchers, policy makers, commercial developers, technology users and international leaders.
There will be plenty in the Conference programme relating to practical advice and support as well as current research findings; successful applications of computer technology for users with disabilities; innovations in the development of new technology; and many more.
A host of computer software, access devices and communication aids will be on show alongside Transform 2004, at a complementary exhibition.
Transform is organised by Assistive Technology and Inclusion Ltd and is supported by Becta, the UK Government's lead agency for information and communications technology in education; The North West Development Agency; the DfES; and Inclusive Consultancy and Training.
