August Appointments and AmericaAugust 2001 August 1st and Inclusive Technology's year is over, as is Inclusive Consultancy and Training's second year as exhibition organizer and ICTS NOF administrator. Together they have invoiced £3.8 million pounds ($5.3 million dollars) of sales in the UK. Inclusive Technology has sold £2.8 million of special needs software and assistive technology, a staggering growth rate of 53% over last year. We have found much of what is best in the Inclusive Technology catalogue in America. IntelliKeys, AlphaSmart, AbleNet's switches, AMDi communicators and Mayer Johnson products often top our charts. But while we are out there looking we notice gaps in the resources American teachers and therapists can deploy. |

Some of our SwitchIt! range of software has been published by IntelliTools for three years and now sells very well in the States. But other top software like SwitchIt! Maker and ChooseIt! Maker or the whole LaraMera range from Abrakadabra to Teddy Games cannot be obtained in America. Then we have SwitchBoard, SwitchBox, and a cacophony of keyguards. American teachers only know the trolley as a streetcar but when they see the Atkinson VariTech adjustable computer trolley (computer table over there) they really like it - they have nothing like it at that price.

This August, Inclusive TLC Inc now has 2400 sq ft of smart new offices built to our design in Boonton, New Jersey, just forty minutes from Newark Airport or from downtown Manhattan. Better still this new company will be headed up by Tom Caine of Tom Caine Associates. Tom is known as one of the most energetic and successful suppliers of assistive technology and learning disability resources in the US and I am delighted to have him join us. |
![]() Rod Boyes to join Inclusive's development team |
Brilliant Computing fans will recognize Rod Boyes's name. He was the programming inspiration behind some super switch software both at Brilliant Computing and later at SEMERC. Rod's return means that there are three musicians in our small development team including the new head of the team, Helen ("press the switch") Melhuish. |

Trish Hornsey is taking my place leading the Inclusive Technology team in the UK. Trish was Development Director at SEMERC, and Development Director at Inclusive Technology until yesterday. |

![]() Google image Beta |
Google is the clear leader in search engines particularly if you have low vision and like its uncluttered layout or if you are blind and like the way the cursor drops in the search box the second you start to Google.
I love the way they have a special logo just for 4th July or the way it searches though 1.3 billion indexed web pages in 1/10 of a second.
They are trialling an image search engine! It could be a great teaching resource. They put up a Beta test version last week with 250,000 images. You must try it - but turn off the "mature content" filter; it cuts out almost everything. Meanwhile I will use Google to inflict mature content on you!
