Pixel 
New software from Knowsley LEA and ICDC at John Moore's University, aimed at Key Stage 1 literacy. Pixel is a dizzy computer bug whose friends, the Video Kids, help him to learn about the use of labels, lists, recounts, instructions, flowcharts and cyclical diagrams through 14 interactive episodes. In each section the Video Kids give an introduction to the activity through video, then you help Pixel to carry out tasks. Pixel and the untidy bedroom - Pixel's toys are in a mess and he needs some labels to sort them out. Pixel and the human body - The Video Kids send Pixel a picture but he needs it to be labelled to help him understand it. Pixel and the street sign game - Pixel needs some help to put all the signs in Green Street in the right places. Pixel goes to the park - Pixel's going to the park, but he needs a list to help him remember what to take. Pixel does the shopping - Pixel wants some shopping but needs some help to make a list. Pixel on holiday - Pixel goes on holiday and needs some help to send his postcards. Pixel reads the news - Pixel has a go at editing a newspaper and reading the news on TV. Pixel's diary - Pixel wants to write a diary but he's not sure how to get started. Pixel the cook - Pixel wants to make something to eat but he needs some help to follow the recipe. Pixel and the hidden treasure - Pixel wants to play treasure hunts but needs some help to find the treasure. Pixel and the tricky maze - Pixel need some instructions to help him find his way out of a maze. Pixel's bad day - Pixel's in a muddle. He needs a flow chart to help him sort out his day. Pixel the builder - the Video Kids show Pixel their models - he uses a flow chart to make his own. Pixel and the caterpillar - Pixel thinks butterflies and frogs are very strange creatures - cyclical diagrams help him to understand them. Reinforces comprehension of the major non-fiction text types from Y1 and Y2 of the National Literacy Strategy Framework and the levels have been mapped for you. The delightful and interesting activities give your pupils an opportunity to use non-fiction texts for real purposes. Pixel has been designed to be used independently or as an activity within the Literacy Hour. |
